BOOK REVIEW: Standing in the Rainbow by Fannie Flagg
I just finished reading this book this week and I want to highly recommend it to all of you. If possible you should "read" it on tape or CD. The author reads it herself and provides the "authenticity" of the people she's writing about. To summarize, it's about a small town called Elmwood Springs, Missouri, and spans the time period of the 1920's through the 1990's. You will hear all about Neighbor Dorothy, Bobby Smith, Minnie Oatman, Hamm Sparks and many other "characters" that will make you laugh, cry and become so involved in their lives you'll hate to have the book end. I believe it will be a classic like the Mitford Series.

Hi, I finally got to go to your blog. I love it! I get to hear what is going on. Seems like I miss so much, all I do is work & go home to work some more. Really tired this week. I miss spending time with your "babies" too, they are growing up way to fast. I need to spend time with Katie, especially helping her with her reading. Something has to go-supper maybe? I don't know. Love ya,Sandy
Oh Jody. I just love Fannie Flagg, and Standing in the Rainbow is one of my very favorite books ever. I got my idea for Anna-Grace's name from Anna Lee. I wanted to do Anna-Leigh but Jason didn't like it. Of course, he also did not like Anna-Claire or even Anna-Grace. But he finally gave in to Anna-Grace when I was recovering from my second surgery during my pregnancy. It was a mercy giving-in, but I took it just the same. :)
Anyway, back to the book. I can't say enough good about it. It takes the reader back to a time when life was simple. I long for that. With air conditioning of course. And a make-up mirror. But other than that.... :-)
I have not heard Fannie Flagg read this book on audio, but I just LOVED her reading Welcome To The World Baby Girl on audio.
YOu must read that book, too, if you haven't already. It's not as good as SITR but Norma and Aunt Elner and a few others are in this book as well.
When I read that book, I liked it. But when I heard it on audio, it really came alive for me and was just downright hilarious.
She has a new book out right now that is set in Elmwood Springs and centers around Aunt Elner. I liked it until it took a turn...which, if you read it, you will know exactly what I'm talking about.
She also has a Christmas book out...can't remember the name right offhand but it's good, too.
Glad to see your blog. I was wondering what happened.
